COBRA: Since 1985, employers with 20 or more employees are required to offer employees and their dependents the opportunity to continue health care coverage if such coverage is lost due to one or more "qualifying events."
HIPAA: The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requires covered entities to conform with privacy, transaction standardization and security regulations at various benchmarks prior to April 2003.
ERISA: Passed in 1976, this set of laws and regulations continues to shape the health market place. Often forgotten, the plan requirements established by this landmark legislation still form the foundation for all plan compliance.
