HIPAA
The Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act, also known as HIPAA, was enacted in 1996 to improve health plan portability and accountability. HIPAA's substantive rules concerning pre-existing condition limitations, non-discrimination based on health status factors, and special enrollment periods have indeed made access to health care easier for many Americans.
This Act also provides provisions to protect personal health information inside a health plan from unauthorized disclosure, and requires payers, providers, and claims clearinghouses to establish protections, adopt standards, and meet requirements for the transmission, storage, and handling of certain health care information.
We've developed a streamlined approach to HIPAA compliance for benefit plan managers. Ask to see how The Smart Company does it!
